Bar History

"We hope you will enjoy many hearty meals and visit us often to quench your hunger and thirst for drink and company."

They came in hopes of opportunities for their families and themselves...for a better life...for the fundamental belief that all have the right to, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." They offered their physical labors, their honest toils and trials with the belief they could become more here than in the land of their forefathers. In the late 1800's, Michael O'Toole was a first generation immigrant of Irish descent. He saw a great opportunity to fill a need opening a tavern in the foothills of the Appalachians in Southeastern Ohio. He called his tavern, "Mike Toole's Place."

Mr. O'Toole dedicated his tavern to serving the thousands of immigrant miners who labored to mine the deposits of coal created three-hundred-million years ago and found under those foothills. His pledge was to provide a hearty meal, something cold, wet, and perhaps a frothy brew or three. After helping provide great dining experiences in Central Ohio for over a decade, Michael O'Toole's great-grandson was inspired by his forefather to open our restaurant.

The foods and spirits that those immigrants brought with them are all around us today. We remember them in our menu and our libations. We hope you will enjoy many hearty meals and visit us often to quench your hunger and thirst for drink and company. Our pledge to you is to provide outstanding service and value with great American food, something cold and wet, great frothy brews, spirits and the best little wine list in town.

Conveniently located in downtown Columbus Ohio, Michael O'Tooles is a great place to start your evening with dinner or drinks and explore some of these nearby attractions including sports arenas, night clubs and hotels.

Send us photographs taken of you and your friends at Michael O'Toole's and we will post them on our web site  - helping your memories become a part of our memories.
